We were sad to leave our wonderful hotel on Ouarzazate, but it was time to move on to our final destination. Fortunately the high Atlas Mountains were in between us and our destination, which promised great views of the mountains.
We made some stops on the way for views, shopping, etc. The pass, at 7200 feet, was literally the high point of the trip. We took lots and lots of photos of the mountains.
Loots of desert and abandoned buildings and lush oases, avalanches, people selling on the roadside.
Our next stop was a small women’s cooperative that makes Moroccan argan oil products. We learned the process from tree to cosmetic, and purchased some lotions. Then we went next door for lunch.
From there we drove the rest of the way to Marrakesh. It got hotter and more crowded the closer we got tho the city. We arrived at our hotel around 3, and rested and took care of logistics for a while.
At 5:30, we met up to take a horse-drawn carriage ride through the old and new cities. We saw a lot of churches and mosques and government buildings, as well as city walls and lots of Saturday evening traffic. We also enjoyed the horses when the ones in the carriage behind nuzzled up to check on us.
We got out of the carriage, and started a brief walking tour of the main square of Marrakesh, including part of the souk, the food area, the snake charmers, and the games & music area.
We headed back to the hotel, grabbed a bite at the hotel restaurant (which was fancier than we expected). and then retreated to our rooms to recoup.
You two are very brave to have snakes that close to you. I’d be running. It looks like you’re having a wonderful time. Keep it up.
ReplyDeleteThe snake pictures made me gasp. It would be interesting to have a face-to-face conversation with you about them. (Not anything I aspire to do!!!)
ReplyDeleteBTW, we have been out of town this past week, so I'm late in reading your posts. The architecture of everywhere you visit continues to fascinate me the most. In Morocco, some of your photos look like pictures in my Bibles and/or on a movie set for the Indiana Jones movies.
