Australia Day 22: Sydney Bridge and Manly

Today was the last day of our OAT tour.  It was a free day, but our tour leader graciously took us to some of his favorite spots around the city.  We had absolutely perfect weather.  The day could not have been better!

We started out by taking a train across the Sydney Harbor Bridge, and the walking back across.  It was really fun - not only seeing the spectacular views of the harbor and Opera House, but also the nice walk in the sunshine!

We walked around in “the Rocks” - the heritage area around where the docks used to be - and saw lots of signs about the role of the unions in preserving this area when big business and government were destroying all the buildings.

At Circular Quay, we jumped on the ferry to Manly, on the north side of the harbor.  The views from the ferry were lovely.  In Manly, we strolled down the pedestrian “curso” out to the lovely beach - mostly surfers in the water - and had a delicious lunch overlooking the ocean.

After a walk on the parade (the sidewalk running Along the coast), we enjoyed delicious gelato at Anita’s, and did some shopping before getting the ferry back.

After a brief rest in the hotel, and our trip debrief, we went to dinner in Darling Harbor.  To get home, we took the last ferry back - which allowed us to ride under the bridge, which was fun.  We also got to see the moon rising over the Opera House, which was spectacular!  What a great end to an excellent trip!
